Block RDP at the firewall.  Really, can block almost everything incoming unsolicited at the firewall.  VPNs are your friends. (DMZ is a separate conversation, and full of exceptions and special cases.)

Always block RDP ports.   But allow VPN ports... then hackers can try to guess your VPN passwords instead.Then they won't have access to just your desktop.... they'll have access to the entire VPN...
